How The ASSIST Algorithm Processes Your Uploads?

Here is a step-by-step breakdown of how the ASSIST algorithm processes your uploads:

  1. Duplicate Detection: When an invoice is uploaded, the AI first scans the document to check if the content already exists on the portal to prevent duplicate entries.
  2. Data Extraction & Matching: Once cleared as a new document, the system extracts text (including handwritten notes) and identifies key entities like the company name. It then automatically fills in the receiver and supplier information based on recognized names.
  3. Behavioral Learning: The AI learns from user behavior over time. If a supplier name is slightly different (e.g., "ABC Technology" vs. "ABC Technology Resources"), and you manually correct it, the AI will remember the corrected format for future invoices.
  4. Code Prediction: The algorithm predicts line items and account codes automatically. It bases these predictions on the existing account codes established within your connected accounting software (such as Xero).

What is the OCR accuracy rate and how does the AI handle tax calculations?

Understanding how ASSIST pulls numerical data can help you manage your workflows more effectively:

  1. Extraction Accuracy: The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology recognizes documents in various conditions, including PDFs, images, and handwriting, with an accuracy rate of more than 95%.
  2. Document Classification: Upon upload, the AI automatically classifies the document as either an Accounts Payable (AP) or Accounts Receivable (AR) record.
  3. Total & Tax Extraction: The algorithm extracts the total sum directly from the receipt or invoice.
  4. Handling Tax Rates: Currently, the system calculates the tax rate based strictly on the information it can extract from the receipt. If an invoice lacks explicit tax rate information, it will be recognized as having a 0 tax rate in ASSIST. When sent to a connected accounting platform like Xero, Xero will then apply its own default tax settings (e.g., automatically adding 9%) based on your account's configuration.
